FINANCIAL AID at GCCC
Financial aid is any grant, scholarship, part-time employment or
loan offered for the express purpose of helping students pay for
education related expenses. Such aid is usually provided by federal,
state, college, or private agencies. GCCC offers one or more of the
various types of aid to students who apply and are found eligible.

Grants:
Awards for undergraduates with the greatest financial need; they do not
have to be repaid. Apply using the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid. Click on FAFSA to apply!

Federal Pell Grant The largest federally funded
undergraduate grant program. Awards are based on enrollment status
and expected family contribution as determined by information
provided on FAFSA. |
 |
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
A federally funded grant program awarded by the Financial Aid Office
to students who demonstrate exceptional financial need and complete
the FAFSA before April 1st. |
 |
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) A new
federal grant program. This grant will be awarded to eligible
students in addition to the Pell Grant. Click on the orange

Florida Student Assistant Grant (FSAG) A state funded
grant available to students who meet eligibility criteria as
determined by the Florida Department of Education. Apply using
FAFSA. |
Loans:
Funds that students apply for that do have to be paid back. There
are a variety of loans available, some are better for the borrower than
others.
 |
Stafford Loans Federal loans that require a FAFSA
application to apply. Repayment on Stafford loans doesn't
start until 6-months after the student leaves school.
Subsidized Stafford loans have no interest while the student is in
school at least half-time. Unsubsidized Stafford loans accrue
interest while the student is in school. To apply, follow the
3-step process at the top of this page. |

Parent PLUS Loans Federal loans that a parent can apply
for their child's education. Gulf Coast requires that a FAFSA
application be completed to be eligible. To apply, follow the
3-step process at the top of this page. |

Alternative (Private) Loans Loans offered by private
lenders that don't have the same benefits as federal loans.
Gulf Coast encourages students to exhaust all other means before
applying for alternative loans. |

Veterans Affairs Questions regarding VA benefits should

Gulf Coast Community College Foundation You can
apply for scholarships through our Foundation. They have
part-time and full-time scholarships available. Apply early to
be eligible.

Workforce Training Center The
Workforce Training Center
at GCCC is a state funded service provider offering educational
training opportunities in A.S., Certificate, and Vocational careers
that are high wage and high demand occupations. |

Returning Students Program Academic and emotional
support for single parents and displaced homemakers who enroll and
meet certain criteria. Students qualifying may be eligible for
tuition and book assistance based on funding availability.

Employment: Part-time jobs through the
following programs require an overall 2.0 GPA. Students work 10-20
hours per week and earn minimum wage.

Federal Work Study (FWS) FWS is a federally funded, need
based student work program. Indicate your interest in student
employment on the FAFSA application. Applications and assignments
are available in the Financial Aid Office or

Cooperative Education Learn while you earn. Gain
first-hand knowledge of your chosen major through on-the-job
training. The Co-Op office pairs students with area employers who
can give you relevant experience related to your A.S., A.A.S, A.A.,
or Certificate program of study.
